Periodontal Therapy

Gum disease is one of the most preventable chronic conditions in all of healthcare. Without proper brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar buildup leads to a reversible condition called gingivitis. Gingivitis has common symptoms of inflammation, redness, bleeding gums, and bad breath. Left untreated, it can lead to advanced gum disease known as periodontitis where there is bone and tissue loss. Periodontitis is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States.

Symptoms of

Gum Disease

One reason that so many patients struggle with gum disease is that, in the very earliest stages of development, there aren’t always any noticeable symptoms. As the condition grows more advanced, though, symptoms will start to appear.

They include:

  • Gums that bleed when you brush
  • Frequent bad breath
  • A receding gum line
  • Loose teeth

Patients with more advanced gum disease may even experience tooth loss as a result of their condition. Gum disease has also been linked with health problems elsewhere in the body. Those problems include heart disease, Alzheimer’s, stroke, diabetes, and pre-term birth in pregnant women.
